في ظل استمرار الحوثيين في مواجهة الولايات المتحدة تحت شعار “نصرة غزة”، تتزايد كلفة هذه الاستراتيجية بشكل متسارع — ليس فقط على المستوى العسكري، بل أيضًا من حيث تعميق الأزمة الإنسانية في اليمن. فرغم أن هجماتهم البحرية لفتت أنظار العالم، إلا أنها أدت إلى ردود فعل عسكرية أميركية متواصلة تهدد ما تبقى من نفوذهم السياسي والجغرافي.

من الواضح بشكل متزايد أن التصعيد ضد قوة عظمى لن يحقق مكاسب استراتيجية على المدى الطويل لا للحوثيين ولا لليمن. والسؤال اليوم هو: هل لدى الحوثيين الاستعداد لإعادة ترتيب أولوياتهم والبحث عن مخرج وطني يضع اليمن أولًا؟

التصعيد مقابل المصلحة الوطنية

لقد وضع الحوثيون أنفسهم في موقع “حماة القضايا الإقليمية”، لكن في الداخل اليمني تتفاقم الأزمات: رواتب غير مدفوعة، بنية تحتية متهالكة، وغضب شعبي متزايد. في ظل هذه المعطيات، تصبح شرعية الاستمرار في المواجهة محل تساؤل.

التراجع عن التصعيد ليس استسلامًا، بل قد يكون إعادة تموضع ذكيّة، ورسالة بأنهم مستعدون للمشاركة في تسوية سياسية مستقبلية تشمل كل الأطراف اليمنية.

نافذة للخروج الأنيق

لا تزال هناك فرصة لتراجع سياسي مشرّف:

وقف التصعيد في البحر الأحمر
الانخراط في المساعي الدبلوماسية الإقليمية
الاعتراف بخطورة الانهيار الداخلي
فتح الباب لحوار سياسي شامل

بهذه الخطوات، يمكن للحوثيين الحفاظ على مكانتهم السياسية دون التخلي عن مبادئهم — والأهم، دون مواصلة التضحية باستقرار اليمن الهش.

الاختبار الحقيقي: اليمن أولًا

على المجتمع الدولي، وخاصة الأطراف الإقليمية والمنظمات الإنسانية، أن يشجعوا مثل هذا التحول. فالحوثيون اليوم أمام مفترق طرق حاسم: إما التشبث بالشعارات الخارجية، أو إظهار القيادة عبر تبني خيار سياسي مسؤول ووطني.

A Strategic Pause: Can the Houthis Choose Yemen Over Escalation?

As the Houthis continue their confrontation with the United States under the banner of “supporting Gaza,” the costs of their strategy are rapidly mounting — not only in terms of military losses but also in deepening the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. While their attacks in the Red Sea have drawn international attention, they have also triggered sustained U.S.-led retaliatory strikes that now threaten what remains of the group’s political and territorial leverage.

It is increasingly clear that escalation against a superpower may not yield long-term gains for the Houthis or for Yemen. The question now is whether the Houthis are willing to recalibrate their priorities and consider a national exit strategy — one that puts Yemen first.

Escalation vs. National Interest

The Houthis have positioned themselves as defenders of regional causes, yet inside Yemen, the economic and humanitarian toll continues to rise. With unpaid salaries, crippled infrastructure, and rising public frustration, the moral legitimacy of continued external confrontation is wearing thin.

Choosing to step back from confrontation with the U.S. is not an act of surrender. It can instead be a strategic repositioning — a signal that the Houthis are ready to prioritize national unity and participate in a future peace process that includes all Yemeni stakeholders.

A Window for a Graceful Exit

There is still time for a dignified political retreat:

De-escalating maritime operations
Engaging with regional diplomatic efforts
Acknowledging the urgency of Yemen’s domestic collapse
Opening space for inclusive political dialogue

By doing so, the Houthis can preserve their political relevance without forfeiting their principles — and more importantly, without continuing to sacrifice Yemen’s already fragile stability.

The Real Test: Yemen First

The international community, especially regional actors and humanitarian organizations, must encourage such a recalibration. The Houthis now face a critical choice: cling to external slogans or demonstrate leadership by opting for a political future anchored in national responsibility.

Will they have the courage to choose Yemen over war?
